The Riverdale Police Pistol team Junior Rifle Program is open to all youth between age 8 and high school graduation who are deemed by the staff to be mature enough to undertake the responsibilities of the program.  Safety training is provided prior to participation, and a written and practical test must be passed prior to starting the actual shooting portion of the program.  Rifles and other equipment are provided, with the exception of eye and hearing protection which the student MUST provide and MUST be used.

The program charges $5.00 per night which covers the price for up to 100 rounds of ammunition, which is below our actual cost.  Unless otherwise approved, club ammunition must be used.  Dues are $25.00 per year and are due at the start of the season or when a person joins.

The Junior Club season starts on the FIRST Wednesday of October and meets on most Wednesdays with a break at Christmas time and ending in May.  Please check the club calendar using the CALENDAR link on the left to confirm program dates.

The meetings are split into TWO sessions as follows:

Session 1:  5:45 PM to 7:30 PM.  This session is for younger and new shooters.  It will use the NRA Light Rifle program to teach the shooters the basics of target rifle shooting in a supportive and fun manner.  Besides using lighter rifles, it also uses larger targets and starts with the rifle on a rest while the shooter learns how to aim and shoot.  Eventually the shooter moves off the rest and progresses to more difficult types of shooting.

Session 2:  7:15PM to 9:15 PM.  This session is for older shooters, primarily those interested in
3- or 4-position target shooting.  While it is expected that most of the people during this session would be experienced shooters, potential older shooters with no experience are welcomed to participate during this time.

The first October meeting will be a general orientation/ re-orientation meeting during which the safety orientation and tests will be administered and membership applications filled out.  There will be shooting that night also.

ALL new prospective shooters and returning members are required to attend and pass the range/safety tests before they will be allowed to shoot!

Shooters are expected to arrive on time so they can help set up or clean up.  New shooters are welcome to come at any time with new shooter orientation given the second Wednesday of the Month.  Parents are encouraged to stay and help the volunteers run the program.
